Newcastle extended their lead at the top of the table with a well earned draw at home to QPR in midweek. The Super Hoops had gone ahead in the 7th minute through Ben Watson, but on loan striker Marlon Harewood bundled the ball home on 70 minutes, to pull the home side level. The Magpies are at home again this weekend and face Bristol City. City won their first game in five in midweek, beating Ian Holloway’s in-form Blackpool. But they face a tough test at St James’ Park as Newcastle aim to extend their lead further. Newcastle are 1/2 for the home win with bwin.

Preston North End have had a strange start to the season, having followed some impressive wins with disappointing defeats. This week was a perfect example, after a great away win at Leicester City, Preston were beaten at home by a struggling Reading side. Alan Irvine’s side will need to show more consistency if they harbour ambitions of promotion. This weekend will be a great test of the promotion credentials as they host West Bromwich Albion at Deepdale. After a flying start to the season the Baggies have had a wobble. Following their Carling Cup defeat to Arsenal West Brom have lost back to back league games against Crystal Palace and Barnsley. Di Matteo will be hoping his side can get back to winning ways but Preston will be confident of getting a result. The home side are priced at 29/20 to beat the Baggies.
QPR have finally kick-started their promotion push. Victory at Cardiff was swiftly followed by a 5-2 thrashing of Barnsley last weekend, while Rangers held Newcastle to a draw at St James’ Park in midweek. With a game in hand on the teams above them, QPR are well placed to make an assault on the promotion chasing pack. This weekend the Super Hoops are away at Swansea and after such a great result last time in Wales, the R’s will be confident of taking all three points. However, Paulo Sousa will be aiming to get one over on his former club at the Liberty Stadium so it will not be easy for the Londoners. QPR are priced at 33/20 for an away win with bwin.
