Gary Neville retires from football! – Premier League News
ByAfter spending whole 20-year long career in Manchester United, Gary Neville decided to retire from football in the eye of his 36 birthday.
Right back played for Manchester United since 1991 and played 602 matches in the most successful period for the club from Old Trafford. When Roy Keane left the club, he was appointed as a new captain. He was the second longest serving player in the current Manchester United squad, right behind Ryan Giggs who remains the oldest player in the squad. With Red Devils, Neville won eight titles in Premier League, three FA Cups, two League Cups, one Intercontinental Cup and one FIFA World Club Cup.
Manchester United’s manager Sir Alex Ferguson described him as the best right beck of his generation and announced that he will offer him to stay in the club as a coach.
He has 85 caps for England. Last four years of his career was filled with injuries. Neville’s final professional appearance was against West Bromwich Albion on New Year’s Day 2011, a 2–1 victory at The Hawthorns. Interesting fact is that his brother Phil, who played along his side in Manchester, is still playing for Everton as the captain.
From Manchester United’s “Golden generation”, there are only Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes left as active in the team.
