Italian Football Serie A betting news

By

Italian job begins!

The action starts in Serie A this Saturday, but without one or two familiar faces… Yes right, and it is bad to all football punters.

At AC Milan, Paolo Maldini has finally retired after 25 years of sterling service to the Rossoneri and Carlo Ancelotti has departed for London. Former Brazilian international, Leonardo, will carry the mantle for Milan. Having also lost Kaka to Real Madrid, Milan will be hoping Brazilian wonder-kid Pato can fulfil his potential this year. Milan start their campaign away at Siena on Saturday night. The Rossoneri are priced at 9/10 to start the season with an away win.

Across town, champions Inter have also seen their star performer depart for La Liga, as Zlatan Ibrahimovic has joined Barcelona. However, Jose Mourinho has been very shrewd to ensure that Samuel Eto’o was part of the deal. Eto’o will be a huge success in Serie A and he will score the kind of poacher’s goals that Inter have struggled to convert. While Inter will undoubtedly miss Ibrahimovic’s creative genius, Eto’o will give the side a completely different attacking dimension, one which could prove particularly effective in the Champions League. The Nerazzurri start at home to newly promoted Bari. It should be a fairly comfortable opening fixture for Mourinho’s men, who are priced accordingly at 1/5.

In Turin, Juventus have put their faith in former defender Ciro Ferrara, naming him as their coach after he successfully took the reigns on a temporary basis following Claudio Ranieri’s dismissal last term. Juve have two high profile arrivals this summer, the first sees the return of Fabio Cannavaro from Real Madrid. Cannavaro has received a mixed reception as many fans are still aggrieved with the way in which he left the club in their hour of need. The Old Lady has also signed Felipe Melo from Fiorentina. The Brazilian midfielder won rave reviews at the Confederations Cup and will be a good addition to the squad. This season could be the one in which Amauri really blossoms up front, and with the evergreen Alessandro Del Piero alongside him, there will be no shortage of chances. Juve start off at home to Chievo, who narrowly avoided relegation last season. A home win is priced at 3/10 but Juve were slow starters last season, so there could be value in the draw at 71/20.

Francesco Totti’s Roma face a tough task at Genoa. Last season Genoa finished in 5th place, ahead of Roma. The Giallorossi will of course rely heavily on their mercurial captain, if they are to challenge the big three for the Scudetto. At 17/10 Roma are a good bet for an opening day away win though.
