Messi named Player of the Year 2009

Lionel Messi was expected to be the player of the year. It was an amazing year for Barcelona; they were able to win all the competitions that they participated. Messi helped Barcelona to win six awards and by being named FIFA player of the year was just the cherry on top of a Sunday fudge ice cream.

The Argentinean striker, who made the goal against Manchester United in the Champions League in 2009, also scored on Saturday to secure the Club World Cup in Barcelona on Saturday night against Estudiantes.
The 22-year-old won the award for the first time, beating last year’s winner Cristiano Ronaldo.

He says that he is very happy and what is happening is unbelievable!

The awards were voted by coaches and captains of every national team.
