Now that the World Cup places have finally decided, we can now concentrate fully on domestic issues without interruption! The Premier League returns this weekend and the big four are all in action, writes Rob Treloar…

Of course, Liverpool have been having a torrid time of late, winning only one of their last nine matches. Surely even the mercurial Rafa ‘Its never my fault’ Benitez cannot withstand many more defeats? Manchester City are the visitors at Anfield this weekend and victory for Sparky’s Sky Blues could well see Rafa out of a job. The fact of the matter is that Man City are the team most likely to take Liverpool’s place in the top four. Player for player Manchester City have a far superior squad to Liverpool and although the Reds have two of the world’s finest performers in Gerrard and Torres, it may not be enough to beat the Blues. Much has been made of the money Mark Hughes has spent, but little is mentioned about the money Benitez has wasted. Rafa has spent over £228 million in his time at Anfield, signing 76 players, of which almost half have since left the club.

This weekend’s fixture is of huge importance to Liverpool, a win might just get their season back on track but a draw or a defeat will see the vultures circling above Rafa. In truth, Manchester City have hit a lull after their terrific start to the season but Sparky will see this fixture as an ideal opportunity to reignite their assault on the top four. Despite their abysmal record, Liverpool are still favourites to win the match with bwin, priced at 17/20, while City are 3/1 to record an away win, with the draw at 12/5.

If City are to get a result at Anfield the goals are likely to come from the front pairing of Carlos Tevez and Emmanuel Adebayor. Tevez is 13/5 to score at any time during the match, while Adebayor is priced at 17/10.

Elsewhere in the Premiership entertain Mick McCarthy’s Wolves at Stamford Bridge. The Blues will be aiming to extend their lead at the top of the table and given Chelsea’s current form, Wolves could well have their work cut out. Such is Chelsea’s home form, that Wolves are priced at a whopping 14/1 to win at Stamford Bridge, while Chelsea are 3/20 for a home win. There is even value in the draw if you think Wolves can earn a point, with bwin the draw is priced at 23/4. Chelsea’s front two have been in scintillating form. Drogba and Anelka will no doubt make life very difficult for the Wolves defence and Drogba is priced at 3/5 to score at any time, while Anelka is 9/10.

Arsenal travel to Sunderland where they are 11/20 favourites to beat Steve Bruce’s Black Cats who are 26/5 for the home win. The draw is priced at 13/5. And Manchester United face Everton, in what is traditionally a tricky fixture for the Red Devils. Fergie’s side are still strong favourites at 7/20 though, with 7/2 being offered on the draw and 15/2 on an Everton win.
