After an eventful week in the Champions League there are some massive matches in the Premier League this weekend, with two local derbies taking place in London and Liverpool on Sunday, writes Rob Treloar…

Last weekend there were goals galore at White Hart Lane as Tottenham Hotspur put nine past Wigan. Spurs were in scintillating form and Jermain Defoe was at his very best, netting five times to become only the third player in Premier League history to score five in one game. So Spurs will be full of confidence going into their match at Villa Park this weekend, although Harry Redknapp will be well aware that they face a much tougher task against Aston Villa.

Villa are just three points behind Tottenham in fifth place and have only been beaten once all season at Villa Park, ironically against Wigan Athletic on the opening day of the season. Martin O’Neill will be hoping his side can close the gap on Spurs with a win. Villa are slight favourites with bwin at 27/20, while Spurs are 9/5 to win away, with the draw priced at 47/20. Jermain Defoe is 7/5 to add to his goalscoring tally at any time, while his strike partner Peter Crouch is 19/10 to score against his former club.

Liverpool finally got a much needed win in midweek, but it wasn’t enough to stop them crashing out of the Champions League. Now they face their fierce rivals Everton at Goodison Park. The Toffees will be thinking there is never a better time to play the Reds, who look short on confidence. Liverpool’s defensive problems have been well documented this season and Everton will be aiming to take full advantage of any mistakes. Rafa Benitez has been assured his job is safe, despite Liverpool’s appalling run, but a defeat in the Merseyside derby will surely add put huge pressure on the Spaniard. Amazingly, Liverpool will still go into the game at Goodison Park as 11/10 favourites, which means there is great value in a home win at 23/10. Tim Cahill could well cause Liverpool problems in the air at set-pieces, and the Australian midfielder is 2/1 to score in the derby.

Following the Merseyside derby, the focus switches to London, where Arsenal host Premier League leaders Chelsea. Both sides won in the Champions League in midweek but Arsene Wenger will be hoping his side can bounce back from a disappointing defeat at Sunderland last weekend, with a win over the Blues. Carlo Ancelotti is hoping to have Frank Lampard fit for the clash at the Emirates, as Chelsea look to strengthen their position at the top of the table. Arsenal are slight favourites with bwin, priced at 8/5, while Chelsea are 17/10 for an away win, with the draw at 21/10. There is value in the draw as matches between the two sides are notoriously tight affairs. If Lampard wins his race to be fit, he’ll go into the match at 2/1 to score at any time, while Cesc Fabregas is 13/5 to get a goal.
