Premier League betting tips for weekend

By

After two rounds of Premiership action, amazingly there hasn’t been a single draw so far, so the law of averages says this weekend will see a few stalemates.

After a midweek break, Mark Hughes’s millionaires play their first home game against Wolves on Saturday and will look to pick up where they left off at Blackburn last weekend. Mick McCarthy’s side will certainly be buoyed by their away win at Wigan in midweek but Man City will be an entirely different proposition altogether. However, given the vast amounts of money they have spent the home side will be under a lot of pressure, so it is one of those games where at 7/2 there is a lot of value in the draw.

Free scoring Arsenal have started the season like a steam train and they are the last team Pompey manager Paul Hart would want his side to face after back-to-back defeats to Fulham and Birmingham. Pompey will certainly have their work cut out containing Arsenal, and England goalkeeper David James will need to be at his very best if the South Coast club are to stand any chance of taking something from the game. Arsenal are priced at 1/5 for a home win.

Manchester United travel to Wigan having been shell-shocked by newly promoted Burnley in midweek. That defeat is bad news for the Lactics as it will no doubt put the Red Devils in an uncompromising mood. After a great start away at Villa last week, Wigan lost home to Wolves on Tuesday night and it could well be two home defeats on the spin for Roberto Martinez’s men, as United look to bounce back from their early set-back. The champions are only priced at 1/2 though so there is some value there.

Sunday sees two London derbies take place with Chelsea travelling to Craven Cottage to take on their West London neighbours Fulham. Fulham have made a good start to the season and in recent years have a fairly good record against the Blues so at 21/4 they are an attractive proposition. Of course, the smart money will be on Chelsea maintaining their 100% record and they are priced at 1/2 for an away win.

Meanwhile in East London, West Ham will ‘welcome’ Tottenham to Upton Park, hoping they can inflict defeat on Harry Redknapp’s side for the first time this season. Jermain Defoe will, as always, receive a hostile reception at his former club, but with the diminutive striker in scintillating form he could well have the last laugh. That said the Hammers looked strong at Wolves so at 11/5 a draw could be a decent bet.

After their incredible midweek home win over the champions, Burnley will go into their game with Everton absolutely brimming with confidence. However, David Moyes will be looking for a reaction from his side after they were mauled by Arsenal on opening day. Burnley are great value at 49/20 especially given their win on Wednesday night.

Treloars football betting tip for this weekend: There will surely be a few draws this weekend, so I’ve plumped for a treble. You’ll get combined odds of 807/25 if you back Birmingham v Stoke, Burnley v Everton and West Ham v Tottenham to all end in a draw.
