BetOnSports founder Gary Kaplan was sentenced to 51 months in prison on multiple federal charges.
Gary Kaplan, 50 year old American citizen, pleaded guilty back in August to charges of conspiracy to violate the RICO statute, conspiring to violate the Wire Wager Act and violating the Wire Wager Act.
He will also have to pay $43.65 million in criminal proceeds, as well as approximately $7 million in other proceedings.
Kaplan was charged for 20 felonies because he allowed American residents to gamble at BetOnSports. He ran his betting operations illegally in New York and Miami. Kaplan has made immense profits by his illegal operations. Therefore, his role with BetOnSports was the reason for his guilty verdict.
Kaplan’s case should be used both as a warning and awareness to other people who are choosing to defy the US laws.
