Arsenal made number of signings, on a busy last day of transfer window.

Arsene Wenger closed several last minute deals as Arsenal were left out of quality midfielders following the departures with Cesc Fabregas who joined Barcelona and Samir Nasri who joined Manchester City. Injured and suspended players are the second big problem that the Gunners manager is facing with, especially in defensive line. Mikel Arteta expressed desire to leave Goodison Park and was sold to the Gunners for a reported 10 million pounds fee. Beside Arteta, Wenger sealed deals with three more players. The 31-year-old Israeli international Yossi Benayoun signed a season long loan deal with Arsenal. Defender Andre Santos joined the London club from Turkish champions Fenerbahce for an undisclosed fee. Along with Santos, German defender Mertesacker should fill in the voids in Arsenal’s defense. Expirienced German should add much needed experience to the Gunners defense.

Nicklas Bendtner agreed to join Sunderland on loan until the end of the season.

Arsenal is close to complete signing of South Korea skipper Park Chu-Young from Monaco. Deal should be completed on Monday.

Park was in London passing medical on Sunday. He has agreed personal terms with the Gunners after the Premier League team have snatched him from Lille on Saturday morning. Park joined his national team mates in Seoul to prepare for South Korea’s World Cup qualifier against Kuwait. On that occasion h 26-year-old said: “I had to make a decision between Arsenal and Lille. And the decision had to be what I want and won’t regret.” Park’s move to Arsenal will cost an initial fee of around three million pounds.

Korean player was in Lille as club’s officials revealed on Friday when he has undergone first part of medicals. He did not shown up on Saturday for a second part. His hotel room was empty and Lille’s officials tracked him down just to find out he has headed to London to sign for Arsenal.

Arsenal see prospect in this skillful player and after Sunday’s shocking 8-2 defeat at the hands of Manchester United they surely need one in the midfield.

After Arsenal’s humiliating 8-2 defeat at the hands of Manchester United, many people started to talk judgmental about Arsene Wenger. However, his colleague Pep Guardiola stood in defence of the Gunners boss.

Guardiola explained that poor performance by the Arsenal was rather the result of the departure of club’s key players in recent season, Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri who had gone to Barcelona and Manchester City, and that the Gunners were forced to play with unfamiliar starting eleven with Jenkinson, Traore and Coquelin, because of the many injured and suspended players. Guardiola pointed out the positive work his counterpart had done for the Arsenal during the past 15 years: “I agree with (Sir) Alex Ferguson’s opinion about (Arsene) Wenger, when he said that he didn’t know if there could be another coach who could do as much as he has for Arsenal during all these years. It’s not just the departure of (Samir) Nasri and Cesc (Fabregas) but also (Jack) Wilshire’s injury that means he can’t play and all the other injuries across the squad. They have always progressed far and been competitive in the Premier League over the past decade, always with a very characteristic style of football. When you think of Arsenal you think of a team that has played very nice football. The winner is not always the good one as the loser is not always the bad one. In sport there are many good things that have nothing to do with winning or losing. I think what Wenger has done for soccer in general…Arsenal is big. Of course you can always go to Manchester’s stadium, who have so many good players, and Arsenal with so many injuries these things can happen.”

Guardiola also keeps an eye on the other Manchester club, City which had brilliant show at White Hart Lane in their 5-1 win against the home team. Spaniard said: “They (Manchester City) can do it (win the Champions League). If you see the players and you see their manager they can do it. Maybe they don’t have the history in the last years to play in the Premiership or Europe, but if you see those names you nominated right now they are awesome. Dzeko, Aguero, Tevez, Silva, Barry, Balotelli, Yaya Toure, Kolo Toure. All of them are top, top, top players and they started very good in the Premiership.”

Arsenal suffered humiliating loss at Old Trafford against Manchester United on Sunday. Wayne Rooney hit a hat-trick, newcomer Ashley Young a brace and Welbeck, Nani and Park sealed United’s victory.

This loss left Arsenal with only one earned point from three matches and only two goals scored and 10 found in their net. However, despite their loss, manager Arsene Wenger said he and his team should not be judged before the end of the season: “I’m in a public job and I have to accept that. I make the right decisions for the club and I will continue to try to do that. The players we have sold, I also brought to the club. It’s difficult when you lose 8-2. It’s better that you don’t talk too much because it hurts and it looks like you’re looking for excuses. I feel it was under very special circumstances and what’s important is we’ve played three games of the season. It’s not like it’s the end of the season, when you make a balanced judgment of the season.”

The Frenchman have also said his expectations about signing new players. South Korean forward Park Chu-Young should join the Gunners as well as another midfielder and defender. He also pointed out that his team really needs to regain some injured and suspended players after loss like this one they need them for comeback: “After a game like that it’s terribly painful. It hurts, it was humiliating. We were short in some areas, we had eight players out and they had class. They punished us in front of goals.”

Arsenal will have a chance to redeem themselves in front of the home crowd in a next Premier League fixture against newcomers Swansea City.

Manchester United demolished Arsenal on Sunday’s Premier League derby. All predictions and odds were saying that Manchester United will take the victory at Old Trafford, but no one could predict that they will be so good against their rivals and they will score so many goals.

In this spectacular match, Manchester United showed class and dismantled Arsenal on all levels of the game. Powerless Arsenal players simply weren’t good enough to match well prepared Red Devils.

Welbeck have brought United to lead after Anderson’s lofted pass. Soon after, Arsenal had a chance to strike back when Jonny Evans fouled Walcott inside the penalty box. Van Persie took the penalty kick, but De Gea’s reaction was perfect and the punishment for the missed chance came almost immediately. Young place fantastic curve shot behind Szczesny for 2-0. Wayne Rooney took a perfect free kick for 3-0. That was his 150th goal for United. Theo Walcott was able to extend Arsenal’s hopes they could equalize until the end of the match.

In the second half, Manchester scored three goals in between 64th and 70th minute. Rooney, Nani and Ji-Sung Park were the scorers for United in that period. Poor habits of Arsenal’s defensive line have emerged and Wayne Rooney was able to score from another free kick. Same player then put the ball through for Nani who chipped the ball with the style over Szczesny. In 70th Young have set up a goal for Park. Five minutes later Van Persie took the chance he suddenly found himself in a and scored the consolation goal. After Evra was brought down in the Arsenal’s box, Rooney made no mistake from the spot and two minutes later, Young put another curved ball behind powerless Arsenal goalkeeper. The Gunners were ‘gunned’ back to London with eight goals in their net which happened only once in their history in 1896.

Arsenal players will have a hard task on Sunday. They must travel to Old Trafford to face Manchester Untied on Sunday. Wenger’s team is struggling with the form and the deficit of quality midfielders followed by Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri departures. Also the Gunners manager must face the problem with his players injuries and suspensions.

Manchester United form lately is great and seems to be improving from game to game. In the last round they trashed Tottenham 3-0, despite their central defenders duo Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand are injured. Sir Alex Ferguson’s team will be full of confidence ahead of their meeting with Arsenal.

Arsenal on the other side played poor in first two Premier League matches. However, their fine performance against Udinese in Champions League qualifiers and 2-1 win and placement in Champions League group stages guarantee they still have some steam left in their engines.

The crucial fact to the possible outcome of the Sunday derby at Old Trafford can be that Arsenal’s Tomas Rosicky and Andrei Arshavin failed to complete their tasks successfully and to bring in some sparks in the Gunners midfield. That is why Wenger is desperately looking for a playmaker until the transfer window closes on 31st August. Gervinho and Frimpong are under suspension, while Jake Wilshere is a big loss because of injury. On the other side Manchester United odds for a victory in this derby improves the fact that Red Devils have a fine youngsters that managed completely to sub injured Vidic and Ferdinand. Phil Jones had a fantastic career start, while Jonny Evans played well as usual when he needs to fill in and Tom Cleverly continues to impress.

Ferguson has a depth in his squad, and Wenger hasn’t. Not much of a choice, bet on Manchester United.

Latest Manchester City acquisition Samir Nasri believes he made the right decision to leave the Arsenal. French midfielder was impressed after first training session since his big-money transfer occurred: “I was really impressed because I trained with some big players. I was really happy to train with them. I saw some real quality. Now I know that I made the right choice.”.

Nasri declined suggestions that his move away from Emirates was motivated by money. Also he had clarified his comments he made on Gunners supporters and their lack of passion at the Emirates: “I’m happy to let people think what they want. I know my choice was about football. We’ll see at the end of the season when we lift the trophy, and we’ll talk about my choice again. And I’ll show everyone thinking about money that they were wrong. We’re the biggest challengers for Manchester United. You saw the investments over the last three seasons. World-class players are not scared to come to Man City. I’m confident. I never said Arsenal fans weren’t good supporters. I just said that I saw real passion when I signed here. When I signed for Arsenal it was a little bit different. Cesc Fabregas also said the difference between Highbury and the Emirates Stadium is the atmosphere. But don’t get me wrong, I never said Arsenal’s fans have a lack of passion.”

Nasri have also praised his former boss Arsene Wenger and his influence on his career: “I will never forget what he did for me. He was like a second dad. He came to pick me when I was at Marseille. I was an international but I have become the player I am now because of him. He always trusted me even when I was injured. When I came back he always gave me my chance. He was always there for me, always talked to me.”.

He hasn’t been in City’s manager Roberto Mancini first team plans for a long time now and after he spent the second half of the last season on loan at Real Madrid he will be able to play a whole season in a team that wants his services.

Just before their UEFA Europa League second leg playoff at home against Hearts on Thursday which, Tottenham confirmed the completion of the loan signing with Adebayor who was watching the duel at White Hart Lane: “We are delighted to announce the signing of Emmanuel Adebayor on a season-long loan from Manchester City.”.

After three years with Gunners, he moved to Manchester City while Mark Hughes was their coach in 2009 for a fee of around 25 million pounds. However, Hughes successor, Roberto Mancini has brought in other strikers including Mario Balotelli, Edin Dzeko and Sergio Aguero. The second half of the last season, striker spent on loan at Real Madrid for which he played in quarter final duel against Spurs and scored twice on that occasion.
