On Friday in Monaco was held draw for Champions League groups for 2011/2012 season. Groups formed are promising the best Champions League odds so far.
Group A – Bayern Munich, Villarreal, Manchester City, Napoli
Perhaps the most attractive group of this year’s Champions League group stages. All four teams are playing attacking football, so we can expect many goals on all matches. Everybody expect Manchester City to go through and Bayern, Napoli and Villarreal will fight for the second place. Bet on Manchester City.
Group B – Inter, CSKA Moscow, Lille, Trabzonspor
Inter is the first favorite of group B, however, Lille and CSKA Moscow both have a good prospect to play significant role as a potential competition surprise. Trabzonspor came in after UEFA banned Fenerbachce, so they do not look like a competition prospect. Bet on Inter.
Group C – Manchester United, Benfica, Basel, Ocelul Galati
Manchester United and Benfica are the group favorites. Manchester United enters the competition as a team with really good odds to find their place in final stage. Bet on Manchester United.
Group D – Ajax, Dinamo Zagreb, Olympique Lyon, Real Madrid
This group promises interesting duels, and unavoidable Champions League duel between Real Madrid and Olympique Lyon. Two teams have a tradition of meetings in Champions League (in quarter finals last season) and despite Lyon is not on their level from previous seasons, interesting duels should provide interesting Group D betting odds. Bet on Real Madrid.

Manchester City’s goalkeeper Joe Hart has signed a new five-year contract, the club confirmed.
The 24-year-old goalkeeper established himself as a number one for the club and country over the past year with some great performances.
Hart was brought to Manchester City in 2006 for a fee of only 600,000 pounds from Shrewsbury Town. Goalkeeper told the club’s official website: “I’m absolutely delighted to have signed a new deal and it is a very exciting time to be a City player. I can’t think of myself being anywhere other than City and it really feels like home. I feel very privileged to be staying here for another five years. When I signed from Shrewsbury it was always my aim to become the number one here and I was prepared to do anything to achieve that, including going out on loan a few times to prove my worth.”
Thanks to Joe Hart’s fantastic and confident displays last season, City’s ex-number one Shay Given had to transfer to Aston Villa in order to regain first team football. Hart acknowledged his contribution to development to his game: “Shay’s influence on me has been massive and being able to work alongside me has brought my game on tremendously. I’ve lost a close friend and a fantastic team-mate but I’ll keep in touch and talk with him on a regular basis. Shay was always appreciative to the situation here at City and backed me all the way, as I would have done for him if the tables had been turned. I’ll continue to learn from Shay even though he’s now playing for Villa just by watching him on TV.”

German veteran striker Miroslav Klose has sealed his move to Lazio. Klose signed a two-year deal with the fifth placed team in Serie A this season. He rejected rolling one-year-deal which was offered to him by his former club Bavarian giants Bayern Munich. 33-year-old striker headed for Rome on a deal reportedly worth two million pounds. On Lazio’s official website reads a brief statement: “Miroslav Klose is a Lazio player.”
Klose had a rather disappointing 2010/2011 season with Bayern Munich. He appeared in only 20 matches this season in all competitions scoring only one goal for the trophy Bundesliga team that had pretty bad season behind. The veteran didn’t play for German national team in EURO 2012 qualifiers against Azerbaijan and Austria this month, but nevertheless he remains the important part of international set up. He is the second best scorer in German national team history behind the legendary Gerd Muller. Klose capped 109 times scoring 61 times, just eight behind Muller.
Lazio has finished 2010/2011 season at fifth place missing the Champions League spot by inferior goal difference comparing to fourth placed Udinese.

Michael Owen was delighted after Sir Alex Ferguson has offered him a new one-year contract extension. Former Liverpool, Real Madrid and Newcastle striker has been struggling with his fitness, injuries, and his playing time due to rise of fellow striker Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez. Nevertheless, 31-year-old striker made it clear that he wanted to stay in the club. Owen said: “I’m delighted to have agreed on a one-year extension to my contract. To play alongside so many great players, under an exceptional manager, and in front of so many incredibly passionate supporters, is a real inspiration. I can’t wait for next season to start.”
Ferguson stunned everyone when he handed Owen a spot on the bench for Manchester United’s Champions League final match against Barcelona ahead of the club’s top scorer in Premier League Dimitar Berbatov. Experienced manager’s move should be the one of the many that should give United better chances of defending the Premier League title and improving their Champions League odds for the next season. Ferguson said he is delighted with having Owen for another year at the club hoping he will be able to give him more opportunities to play in the season ahead. Fergie said: “Michael has proved to be a top footballer. Its unfortunate Michael didn’t get more opportunities but the form of Chicharito put everyone in the shade and his partnership with Rooney proved invaluable. I am delighted Michael is staying for a further year and we will look to give him more opportunities in the new season.”

Manchester United’s veteran midfielder Paul Scholes has announced that he is retiring from active playing, but he will take up a coaching role at the club.
Paul Scholes had a part side role this season and he has already made the retiring decision. It was expected he will retire following United’s Champions League defeat in the Champions League final to Barcelona. His new role in Sir Alex Ferguson’s setup will surely give Manchester United better Premier League odds for defending the title as they will be able to draw upon Scholes experience. Experienced player said: “I am not a man of many words but I can honestly say that playing football is all I have ever wanted to do and to have had such a long and successful career at Manchester United has been a real honor. This was not a decision that I have taken lightly but I feel now is the right time for me to stop playing. To have been part of the team that helped the Club reach that 19th title is a great privilege.”
Scholes made his debut for United in the League Cup at Port Vale in the 1994/95 season, and since that match he played 676 appearances for the famous club just to sit fourth on the all-time list behind Bill Foulkes, Bobby Charlton and Ryan Giggs.

Famous Argentinean says that Lionel Messi is the only player on the planet that has earned to be called “the new Maradona”.
According to many opinions the best world’s football player ever, Argentinean Diego Armando Maradona, admitted that his fellow Argentinean from Barcelona, Lionel Messi is the only player in the world that has earned to be called “the new Maradona”. Messi was officially rewarded as the best football player in the world in last year’s FIFA awards and he was one of the scorers and the man of the match in Barcelona’s Champions League final 3-1 win over Manchester United.
Maradona said: “Many times I’ve heard during the years that there is “the new Maradona”, but Messi is the only one that I believe deserves to be called like that. He is incredibly talented and has unique ability to do with the ball things you don’t expect. That is what makes him special. All great football players know how to play football and do things that makes you watch them and admire those moves from game to game and keep asking yourself if that what they are doing is even possible. Lionel Messi is that kind of player.” Maradona added: “We don’t have to speak about his skills with the ball, because his way of playing football is on a much higher level. He is working hard for his team and makes opponent’s job difficult. Just watch his movement when Barcelona is not in the ball possession. His teammates can rely on him just like on everybody else in the team when they need to put some efforts on the pressure or defensive play. So, yes, he does some football moves magically, but he also works very hard for his team”
Messi’s trophy from Wembley is the second Champions League. Both he won against Manchester United and he was also a scorer two years ago in Rome. He will have his 24th birthday in June and to reach the heights of famous Maradona he must reach the World Cup success with his national team. Maradona was the Argentina captain and the best player of World Cup in Mexico 1986 when he lifted the trophy as Argentina became the World’s football champion for the second time.

Each of these three fantastic players scored a goal in Barcelona’s 3-1 win over Manchester United at Wembley on Saturday. He did it fantastically and now he scored the goal that definitely sealed his club’s victory in the most important final for one European club. He dedicated his goal to his family and that of Liverpool’s goalkeeper Pepe Reina: “We are very happy having achieved all of this. Barcelona’s 3-1 victory over Manchester United in Champions League final at Wembley was perhaps the sweetest thing for Barcelona’s defender Eric Abidal, who was in hospital bed just two months ago after being diagnosed with a cancerous tumor in his liver. Abidal has returned to the field earlier than predicted and his form began to uplift preceding the expectations. The France international was reduced to tears by his teammates after being allowed to lift the trophy instead of team captain Xavi and club captain Carles Puyol. Before the end of the match he had been handed the captain’s armband by Puyol, who was given a chance to feel the atmosphere in the last moments of the match.
Abidal said: “It was such a special thing for Xavi and Carles and Pep to do. It made me full of emotion to think about it and everything I have been through and I could not hold (the tears) in. This kind of thing is why this is such a special club. We are like a family and everyone treats each other with love and respect.”
