Live Serie A – Del Piero signs new contract with Juventus

Alessandro Del Piero Juventus captain and one of the best Italian midfielders in the last 20 years have signed a new one year deal with his club. He participated in winning five Serie A titles, Coppa Italia and Champions League titles. Del Piero was also a World Cup winner with Italy squad in Germany 2006. With his signature in a new contract he proves he still wants to win trophies. According to the experienced midfielder, settling the deal with the club was an easy process: “It wasn’t difficult to reach an agreement. There wasn’t that much to discuss. What needed to have been done was done. We chose today to do it and it is a nice day.”
Despite his fantastic success with the club, he believes he still has more to achieve with Juventus: “This team and this club should always have the maximum ambition and it is right to always think about winning,” he said.
Even now when he is a football veteran, Del Piero says he still shares the similar passion for the game as he did from the first day at the club: “The sensations are excellent, beautiful, just like they were in 1993. I’m happy to be here because as I have always said, I wanted to play for another year. The passion and love with which I train and play has helped me a lot and will continue to help me.”
Del Piero is a kind of player that makes a difference on the pitch and the one that gives fine example to his teammates, especially the young ones. Milan’s coach Massimiliano Allegri admitted he is aiming the Coppa Italia even when his team is only a point away of winning the Serie A title. On Milan’s trip to Stadio Olimpico, a draw would be enough for them to seal the Scudetto with two games remaining to play. In Serie A Scudetto race is just worming up. Leaders Milan had a really poor display last weekend in a 1:0 loss at the hands of Palermo the team which was force to change coach after 7:0 defeat against Udinese a few rounds earlier. It looks like Milan suffered a true shock after disappointing Champions League early exit after duels against Tottenham. This was Milan’s third game without a win in a row, which is their worst run of results this season. Now Inter and Napoli are only two and three points away from Milan at the top of the Serie A table.
City derby between Milan and Inter is scheduled for the next round of Serie A and Inter will welcome that match with only two points behind their greatest rivals Milan. Inter defeated Lecce 1:0 thanks to a goal scored by Pazzini. Leonardo’s team is doing well and they believe they have what it takes to defend the Serie A title and the Champions League title as well.
Lazio defeated Cesena thanks to an early goal scored by Zarate, who managed to score after three months. Fiorentina was able to play only a draw against Roma. Ibrahimovic banned for three matches!
Posted by: | CommentsMilan’s star striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic will miss crucial derby with Inter, after receiving a three-game suspension for punching Bari’s Marco Rossi.
During Milan’s shock 1:1 draw at San Siro, Ibrahimovic was shown a straight red card after Bari’s defender marked him off a cross. Swedish international was frustrated, as he didn’t score a goal from a free play in seven Serie A matches, and he punched Rossi after the ball was cleared. The referee saw this and sent him off to the locker room early.
A statement from Serie A’s disciplinary committee says: “Three-match ban for Zlatan Ibrahimovic of Milan for irregular behavior after having hit an opposition player in the abdomen, making him fall to the ground without injury consequences.”
Thanks to this suspension, Ibrahimovic should miss games against Palermo, Fiorentina and Inter. Ibrahimovic is the leading scorer for the Milan with 14 goals, but has been struggling with form since February. Milan are the Serie A leaders but are facing a strong challenge from Inter as Leonardo’s team closed to five points behind and there are still nine games to go until the end of the Serie A campaign.

He scored equalizing goal and Milan stayed clear at the top of Serie A with a five points ahead in front of the city rivals Inter, which also equalized against Brescia and are playing a Champions League round of 16 second leg duel against Bayern Munchen on Tuesday night.
Roma managed to take a victory over their greatest rivals Lazio. Totti scored twice in this important match for Roma which is now one step closer to Champions League spot. They are now only two points behind Lazio. Udinese also took their chances and after their 4:0 win over Cagliari they are at the fourth place now. Udinese plays their best football and perhaps the best in Serie A at the moment as they didn’t lose since the beginning of 2011. They have nine wins from 12 matches and only three draws. It looks like they are in really good form when we talk about cup competitions. In last night match, Valencia took the lead thanks to Ricardo Costa’s goal. The half-time was near when Farfan scored an equalizer. In 52nd minute, young Swiss international Gavranovic, who made a perfect debut in the Champions League, scored for 2:1. From that moment Schalke was oriented on counter attacks, while Valencia tried to do everything they could to score. After many missed opportunities by Schalke’s players, Farfan showed his teammates how to score. In the last minute he took a chance of one of their counter attacks and used it for final score 3:1.

Milan is out of Champions League. Serie A leaders failed to score against Tottenham in London and English side team secured their place in last eight of the Champions League. Milan was mostly attacking, while Tottenham was able to resist and from counter attacks create a few opportunities. The best chance Milan had when the ball was kicked out from the home team goal line by William Galas. After that moment Milan tried really hard, but their efforts was in vain.
Overall Milan players and coach believe they were the better team. They were disappointed with the outcome, but they see comfort in Serie A and a chance to win it as they are the current leaders. The fact that Tottenham had practically only one shot on Milan’s goal in 180 minutes says that you just need to use your opportunities. Harry Redknapp was satisfied with his team’s performance last night and as his players, he believes they can win any one at home and they are capable for some great things in the Champions League this season.
