After an eventful week in the Champions League there are some massive matches in the Premier League this weekend, with Liverpool and Arsenal going head-to-head on Sunday, writes Rob Treloar…
Stoke manager Tony Pulis has been in the headlines this week after his dressing room bust up with James Beattie at the Emirates last weekend. Although both player and manager have said the matter has been forgotten, it will be interesting to see if Beattie is still a Potters player at the end of the January transfer window. This weekend Stoke are at home to Wigan, and the Latics will be hoping they can capitalise on any disharmony at the Britannia. Stoke’s excellent home record means they go into the game as 11/10 favourited with bwin, while Wigan are 47/20 and the draw is priced at 9/4. James Beattie is 8/5 to respond to last week’s incident by getting a goal at the Britannia.

Chelsea haven’t won in three games, and their defeat at Manchester City last Saturday has cut their lead at the top of the Premiership to just two points. Frank Lampard missed a penalty for the Blues at Eastlands, which would have seen them salvage a point. The England midfielder will be aiming to make amends this weekend and is 11/10 to score a goal when Chelsea entertain Everton. Unsurprisingly the Blues are strong favourites to win the match at 1/4, with Everton a massive 11/1 to get an away win at Stamford Bridge. Even the draw is whopping 4/1 with bwin.
Manchester United play host to Aston Villa in the late kick-off on Saturday. Michael Owen bagged a hat-trick for the Red Devils in midweek and he’ll be hoping his performance will have earned him a Premiership start against Villa. Owen is 13/10 to get on the scoresheet against Villa. United have been hit by an injury crisis in defence, with Michael Carrick and Darren Fletcher having to fill in at the black for Sir Alex Ferguson. Will John Carew be able to take advantage of United’s makeshift backline? The big Norwegian is 13/5 to get a goal at Old Trafford. United are 21/50 to win the match, with Villa priced at 6/1 and 13/4 the draw.
On Sunday Liverpool and Arsenal go head-to-head at Anfield. Last season the corresponding fixture provided an eight goal thriller as the two sides played out an enthralling 4-4 draw. Liverpool are still yet to find the form they showed last season and suffered yet another defeat in midweek to Fiorentina. Arsenal have struggled away from home this season though so it will be interesting to see which of the two teams comes out on top on Sunday. Liverpool are favourites at 23/20, while the Gunners are priced at 23/10, but at 11/5 the draw may well be a good bet.
